Descaling Your Espresso Machine

Limescale builds up inside the thermoblock, pipes, and solenoid valves over time, reducing heating efficiency and flow rate. Regular descaling keeps your Espresso Studio Pro performing at its best and prevents costly damage to internal components.

Descaling procedure

  1. Prepare the solution. Remove the water tank. Remove the water filter cartridge and set it aside. Pour the entire 500 ml bottle of MV-ESP1-DESCALE into the empty tank, then fill the tank to the MAX line with fresh cold water. Reinsert the tank.
  2. Enter descale mode. With the machine powered on and the ready LED lit, press and hold the Power and 1-cup buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. The descale LED will begin blinking, indicating the machine has entered descale mode.
  3. Descale the thermoblock via the group head. Place your container under the group head. Press the 2-cup button. The machine will pump descaling solution through the thermoblock and out of the group head in cycles — running for 15 seconds, then pausing for 30 seconds to let the solution soak. This continues automatically until approximately half the tank is used (about 10 minutes). The machine will stop automatically.
  4. Descale via the steam wand. Move your container under the steam wand. Open the steam dial fully. Press the 1-cup button. The machine will pump the remaining descaling solution through the thermoblock and out of the steam wand in the same run-and-soak cycle. This takes approximately 5–8 minutes. Close the steam dial when the machine stops.
  5. Drain and discard. Empty the drip tray. Discard all collected liquid from your container.
  6. First rinse cycle. Remove the water tank, discard any remaining descaling solution, and rinse the tank thoroughly under running water. Fill the tank with fresh cold water to the MAX line (no descaling solution, no filter cartridge). Reinsert the tank. Press the 2-cup button to flush fresh water through the group head for 30 seconds. Then open the steam dial and press the 1-cup button to flush water through the steam wand for 15 seconds. Close the steam dial.
  7. Second rinse cycle. Refill the tank with fresh water again. Repeat the rinse through both the group head and steam wand as above. A second full rinse ensures all descaling residue is flushed from the system. This is critical for taste — even trace amounts of descaling solution will affect your coffee.
  8. Reinsert the water filter. Once the second rinse is complete, remove the tank, reinsert the water filter cartridge, fill with fresh water, and replace the tank.
  9. Exit descale mode. Press and hold the Power and 1-cup buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. The descale LED will turn off and the machine will return to normal operation. This resets the usage tracker so the machine can accurately alert you for the next descale.
  10. Run a test flush. Before making your first coffee, run a blank shot of water through the group head for 10 seconds and purge the steam wand for 5 seconds. Taste a small amount of the water from the group head — it should taste clean with no chemical flavour. If you detect any residual taste, run a third rinse cycle.

Prevention tip

Using filtered water dramatically reduces limescale build-up. Keep a fresh MV-ESP1-FILTER cartridge in your tank at all times and replace it every 6 months (or every 3 months in hard-water areas). This can extend the interval between descales and protect internal components for years longer.
