Unpleasant Smell During Use
Symptoms
- Musty or sour odour from the machine during operation
- Smell is noticeably stronger near the roller or exhaust vent
- Odour persists even after self-clean cycle
- Machine smells fine when first switched on but worsens as it warms up
Likely Causes
- Cleaning roller has not been self-cleaned promptly after use and residue has fermented
- Dirty water tank was left full or not rinsed between uses
- The machine was stored damp with the roller attached
- Incorrect cleaning solution used — bleach or heavily scented products can degrade the roller material and produce an odour
- The clean water tank contains stale water from a previous fill
Step-by-step Fix
- Empty the dirty water tank completely and rinse it under a running tap. Fill it with clean water, reattach, and run a manual self-clean cycle (hold the power button for 3 seconds while docked).
- After the self-clean cycle completes, remove the roller. Rinse it under warm water, squeeze gently, and allow to air dry fully before reattaching — at least 2 hours.
- Empty and rinse the clean water tank. Refill with fresh water only — do not leave water sitting in the tank between uses.
- If the odour is severe, soak the roller in a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water for 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
- Wipe down the roller housing channel inside the machine with a damp cloth to remove any trapped residue.
- Allow all components to dry before reassembling and testing.
Still not working?
If the odour persists after deep cleaning and roller replacement, the internal housing may have residue that requires a service flush. Contact support at support.monverta.com.
